First off I am not very social. Only when I have to. When negative thing happen to me or around me I do my best to ignore it. Drama and stress are irreverent to me. Although I try to avoid these negative social interactions, They still leave an awkward feeling in the air. The Last big interactions with my friends is when me and 3 friends went to wings n more for the two for two special on Tuesdays. Long story short i had left my wallet at my house but my friend Mireya offered to give me the extra 8 wings she would receive because i had helped her with cleaning the pool. We got a ride from Cindy and Z seeing as that we did not have a ride otherwise. The whole ride to the restaurant is desirable Z’s car was well maintained he would wash it and clean it regularly. We joked around and laughed on the was to the establishment. When arriving to wings n more the anticipation to enter the building overcame me. I was surprised by the vast dinning room and spacious seating arrangements. We did not have to wait long for a table although we did wait to find a booth. By the time our waitress came for out drinks we went ahead an ordered. We joked around and talked about random things while we waited on our food. Once our food was brought to our table I was overcome by the enticing smell of the wings that I had been craving. We enjoyed our meal our meal as a group, but within my head I was feasting on the most beautifully ascetic pieces of chicken ever made. I had gotten hot Parmesan and lemon pepper flavor wings. Once we had finished our meal the guilt set in the fact I wasn’t able to pay for what I had eaten, yet I knew Mireya had me I felt the underlying tone felling like I couldn’t provide for myself. Although my mind was clouded by negative emotions of having great people around me made the awkward tension irrelevant.

Reading Journal “The Storyteller” By: Sandra Cisneros

Marlin Lopez  17/21/16

The author gives great detail when creating the setting, and often returns to certain places in the apartment when giving her story that are describes as cracked, chipped, or faded. Even with the negative description of the physical looks of the apartment the reader can feel a tone of freedom and tranquility from Cisneros.

Cisneros gives us her fathers perspectives of the beaten down apartment and why he believes she should come back home. At the same time she provokes her personal love for her place while stressing her beliefs of living independently . She uses her time to enjoy the beauty in writing and has a job teaching/counseling.

“Her father can’t understand why she wants to live in a hundred year-old building with big windows that let in the cold.”  The Father holds resentment over the apartment for taking his daughter away from him. In contrast the author shows her personal  attachment to he humble home by saying “When she’s alone , she savours her apartment of high ceilings and windows that let in the sky” By providing her belief after her fathers she is overpowering his belief, so that she can chase her own dreams.

By using her special narrative voice Cisneros is able to establish herself in a way that does not seem bias, but rather merely another perspective for the reader to grasp. Her past is a reminiscence of memories achieving her goal of becoming independent.

White carries his readers on a journey with him. Its more than just a story or collection of events spaced out well with great detail. He gives the extra touch of affecting your senses in a way where you may get disorientated while reading, and causing you to have to read over that page again. Rereading and looking where his conflict within himself unfolds the reader can sense the feeling of being puzzled much like White describes feeling. While the reader may get lost in the human vs. self conflict the story itself is very chronological and easy to comprehend. Grasping the underlying tone of aging and death within the story is the overall purpose of what White is trying to communicate.

White’s narration is most effective at simulating the audience’s five senses towards a reminiscing story of a deep family connection. This allows the reader the freedom to take in all the sensory details white provides, yet still getting flustered with Whites inner struggle. He is basically handing you a epiphany wrapped in a fragile reminiscent of a family going on an adventure at a lake. He uses subtle details to hide his realization of himself aging in the story by obscuring the reader with the primary focus on the stetting and actions. Rather than attaining White’s concept with retaliative easy the beauty is how its so wonderfully hidden.

“There had been no years between the ducking of this dragonfly and the other one-the one that was part of memory.i looked at the boy, who was silently watching his fly, and it was mt hands that held his rod, my eyes watching. I felt dizzy and didn’t know which rod i was at the end of.” This Quote encompasses many features of his time disorientation in addition too his loss of identity. When looking at White’s narrative his acceptance of time passing is a change in the pace of the story for sure. What is of more importance is how when reading again you can tell he leaves a visible trail of his ongoing  struggle throughout the whole story. At first it seemed to only be a well written family story when the actual message of the story was in every little detail, every memory, every sense driven sentence. When one accepts the path they where given in life rather than fight against the current of time only then will the individual be at bliss.
